About this course

The environmental regulation of the oil and gas industry is among the most complex areas of federal law, touching nearly every major environmental statute, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, CERCLA, the Endangered Species Act, and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. This multi-part webinar series will introduce participants to the fundamental legal and regulatory frameworks that govern the environmental regulation of oil and gas operations in the United States.

As part of his presentations, our speaker will also cover the major recent actions taken by the second Trump Administration and the new Congress to roll back and reinterpret key environmental rules, major recent court decisions, and changes in enforcement priorities at the Environmental Protection Agency that implicate the industry.

Designed for both newcomers and those who are more experienced attorneys, landmen, EHS professionals, and government agency employees who work in or with the oil and gas industry, this series taught by Colin Harris, a Chambers ranked environmental lawyer who teaches on this topic annually as a faculty member of the Oil and Gas Law Short Course, will provide a comprehensive overview of the current federal environmental regulatory landscape and its implications for oil and gas operations, compliance, and enforcement.

Part 1 of the series will provide a summary of major federal environmental laws and regulations that impact the oil and gas industry, and the administrative law process that profoundly affects how those laws and regulations are interpreted and applied. The speaker will then focus in Part 1 on the air quality regulation of new and existing oil and gas facilities and the regulation of methane emissions from oil and gas operations under the Clean Air Act.
